CHAG Organisational and Management Structure
Being a non-governmental network organisation CHAG consists of 19 Churches which are all involved in the provision of hospital, primary health care and training services. Currently, the network manages a total of 168 Member Institutions (MI's): hospitals, health care facilities and training institutions. Each Church has its own Church Health Coordinating Unit (CHCU).
There are major differences among MI's as regards governance structure, type and nature of their operations and volume of work. The importance of the respective 16 CHCU's also differs. Particularly the Catholic and Presbyterian Church have a much bigger share in the operations of CHAG as compared to the other churches. Naturally, this involves particular dynamics and challenges.
In January 2009 the governance structure of CHAG and the functions of various organs underwent a change, after approval of implementation by the Board of Directors and the Partnership Steering Committee. New challenges in the health sector and new demands from members (the Board of Directors, NHCU’s and MIs) and stakeholders presented a new set of operational challenges and justified the need to restructure the Executive Secretariat.
